I was referred to the owner of Mozzarella Bar through a mutual colleague and was approached to redesign the website for a restaurant he had recently purchased.
The existing website the previous owners had in place had several broken links, incorrect and missing information, inconsistent layout and lacked a cohesive visual identity. The site did not effectively communicate the restaurant’s new direction and values.
I took on the project with the goal of creating a more modern, user friendly website that reflected Mozzarella Bar’s new identity while resolving the issues the previous site had.
I began the project by meeting with the owner to understand his vision, goals and requirements for the new site. We looked through other restaurant’s websites together, discussing elements he liked and disliked to establish a clear direction for the new design.
This initial planning stage helped establish the project scope and ensured the new website would address both the client’s needs and the customer’s needs.

After our meeting I created a visual style guide to establish a consistent design direction before beginning development. The style guide included typography, colour palettes, logo usage and the brand’s core values. I presented the style guide to the client to review and approve, allowing us to establish a shared direction before moving forward.
Once approved, I developed the website mockups to demonstrate how the proposed website would translate across the screen. This also gave the opportunity for the owner to ask for any changes before development began.
Once everything was given the tick of approval, I implemented the design in Wix, working section by section while reformatting content from the previous website.
Throughout development I focused on creating visual consistency across the site for example font sizes, spacing and padding/layout. I initially designed for desktop first then adapted for the mobile breakpoint, reducing font and image sizes as well as designing and testing the hamburger menu.

Once development was complete, I conducted a series of checks to ensure the website was functioning as intended.
I tested the navigation links to confirm the hover state was working correctly and that they were anchored to their respective sections. I also tested the contact and function enquiry forms to ensure the automation was sending submissions to the designated email address.
After reviewing the site, I was confident it functioned as intended and the website was ready to be publish for public use.
